First Steps Coronation childcare centre is conveniently located in Papatoetoe close to the train station. We offer families the very best care and education in a safe environment for children 3 months to 5 years.

We believe children should learn and grow as unique individuals. We pride ourselves in building close relationships through open, honest and positive communications that foster collaborative partnerships with children, parents and community. Our culturally diverse teaching team is dedicated to developing the best in your child. Teachers support children’s learning through the positive language and age appropriate resources that develop life long skills and love of learning.

Nutritious home cooked meals are provided by our chef. We do cater for all of the cultural and allergy sensitive needs of our children.

Our environment for children under 2 - We provide an environment with a feeling of home away home and offer an unhurried curriculum for our busy babies where they have time to explore and discover at their own pace. We work with families to make the transition to centre life a smooth and happy time, creating a strong bond and a setting that feels like family. Along with respect, safety and love, we offer a nurturing place for your child to foster the daily development of their minds and bodies. We have a fabulous 1:4 ratio in this room.

Our area for children over 2 - Our mixed age room sees dedicated staff working in partnership with families and children to develop programmes to engage and support the development of every child. Our programme is based on children’s interest and we offer a wide range of learning experiences in a supporting and enriching environment. Families are involved in various events throughout the year including centre programmes, local trips and excursions, fundraising and celebrations of cultures and community events.

We offer a Be School Ready initiative that specialises in preparing children for school life and building on their confidence in early literacy and numeracy. We are fortunate enough to have good relationship with our local school Papatoetoe West Primary.  We have regular school visits to ensure we can create a strong and smooth transition to school.

Our newly renovated outdoor area is inviting and challenges our children to take risks and gain control over their bodies.  We look forward to meeting you and welcome visitors to our centre at anytime.

kind words from our parents

My daughter has attended Coronation Road since she was 4 months old. The staff are always very warm and welcoming and greet my child and my family by name every morning which makes my day. They are genuine and are awesome ladies who have always been there for my daughter. I know my daughter is in a safe, caring and warm learning environment where she is making lifelong friendships with those around her. She talks about her friends and teachers every day. This makes me so happy and reassures me as a parent to know that though I cannot be with her during the week she is safe and happy with her other family at Coronation Road.

I moved out of the area when my son was 4 years old but I made the extra effort to keep him at Coronation until he was 5 because he had such a great relationships with the children and teachers. I recently started looking at day area for my daughter who is 3 months old that was closer to my house so I didn’t have to travel so far but nothing compared. I go out of my way to take her to Coronation Road in Papatoetoe because of the quality of care and love from teachers as you walk in. I wouldn’t trust any other centre with my baby.

The staff at Coronation Road are very understanding and the centre is very well managed. There is always someone to greet us when we arrive and someone to share what has been happening in the day and how our child is progressing.

Our Farm Friends

One of our parents decided to bring some ducklings and a lamb to show to the children as a result of his son talking about his farm animals during mat time.

Dress Up Day

We recently held a ‘Character Dress up Day’ to enhance the children’s interest in role play.

BNZ Closed for Good Event

We had an exciting day here at First Steps Coronation as the ‘BNZ closed for good community event’ team joined us. The six volunteers turned up in their special uniform with their iPad. They started with a story about ‘Penny...
