Here at BestStart Montessori Otumoetai, we delight in celebrating events and special days throughout the year with children and their families.
We have felt so enriched by the cultural diversity within our classroom community and feel that this strenghten's relationships, provides cultural enrichment and fun experiences that expand the understanding of our young learners.
The first celebration was Chinese New Year, where we celebrated the heritage of our kaiako Louise who loves making delicious Chinese kai for us on special occasions. This time she had tamariki help to make delicious dumplings. The children also helped by decorating and creating snake-coloured cutouts for the Year of the Snake.
Holi was the next celebration and we dressed in bright colours, coloured in rangoli and drank the most delicious mango lassi! After Holi, we celebrated Eid by again decorating the classroom, reading stories and having many families here who brought some amazing food which everyone enjoyed very much.
The most recent celebration was for Earth Day, where tamariki learned about recycling and what we can do to look after the earth we all live on.
