At BestStart Shelly Bay Road in Beachlands, we believe confident children are those who feel seen, heard and valued, especially by their peers.
When children form strong relationships, they gain the courage to share ideas, ask questions and try new things together. Our emergent curriculum supports this by following the children’s lead, often inspired by their interactions with friends.
When tamariki work together, they learn not only from their kaiako but from each other. They negotiate, problem-solve and celebrate successes side by side. Each shared moment, whether building a tower, creating group artwork or helping a friend, strengthens their sense of identity and belonging.
As children build trust within these relationships, their confidence grows. They become more willing to communicate, explore and support others. We see quieter children step into leadership roles, while more outgoing children learn to listen, collaborate and appreciate different perspectives.
