At BestStart Bader Street, we love celebrating the cultures that make our centre so special.
This month, we joined our Filipino families in honouring “Buwan ng Wika” . This is a special time to honour the native language and culture — a way of remembering the heritage, strengthening the identity, and passing on traditions to the next generation.
Our children explored the richness of the Philippines in fun and meaningful ways. Families were welcomed with “Puto” – soft, steamed rice cakes that are a favourite merienda (snack) in the Philippines.
Everyone was free to taste and enjoy these little treats at our reception area. The children also had the chance to eat “Pancit”, a stir-fried noodle dish with vegetables and meat (chicken), and the famous Filipino-style fried rice, a tasty and comforting dish often served during gatherings.
In the Philippines, Pancit is always present at every special occasion as it symbolises long life and good health. Children also played with playdough in the red, blue, and yellow of the Philippine flag, sparking creativity and conversations about symbols and identity.
To extend the learning, tamariki watched a video showcasing Filipino festivals, traditional food, and beautiful places, gaining a deeper appreciation for this vibrant culture. At BestStart Bader Street, we believe every culture deserves to be celebrated.
Experiences like these help our children grow with respect, curiosity, and develop a sense of belonging.
