Kaiako firmly believe that this starts from the moment you enter our centre and walk through the door of our pepi ruma.

Kaiako have made a beautiful display in the entrance way of our pepi room for parent's and whānau to show how this works for all our visual learners and to spark of deeper discussions around this and the benefits of it for them and their pepi.

Kaiako believe that working "down low and slow" is so important to role model to our pepi, that we take time and listen to their cues and respond in the manner so that they feel heard, understood, supporting their sense of belonging and trust with kaiako as well as their independence in an unhurried, calm environment.

It can be as simple as eye contact, serve and return, a hand gesture or movement that they are trying to communicate with kaiako and this deepens the understanding between everybody. Our centre routines and rituals are very much led by the individual pepi and are unhurried, leaving lots of time for verbal and non-verbal communication, supporting our pepi to feel free and happy to explore our physical environment in a safe and calm manner.
