Spring is here, and our Mahuri/Toddler tamariki have been welcoming the new season through a lovely hands-on planting experience!
Our little gardeners were excited and determined to scoop soil into their planting containers, which we thoughtfully recycled from empty yoghurt pots.
It was wonderful to see them practising their independence as they carefully placed the flower seeds into the soil, a process called sowing seeds. They then watered their little pots, giving their seeds the care they need to begin growing. 🌱
This simple yet meaningful experience offered many opportunities for learning. As tamariki scooped, transferred, and poured, they strengthened their fine-motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and control of their movements. They also explored early science concepts by discovering what plants need to grow, while developing curiosity, patience, and a sense of responsibility for caring for living things.
Using recycled yoghurt containers also introduced an early understanding of caring for our environment by finding new purposes for everyday materials. Through this experience, our tamariki learned that even the smallest hands can make a difference.
We look forward to watching our little seeds grow and seeing the excitement on their faces as the first signs of life appear! Ka pai, Mahuri tamariki! What a beautiful way to welcome spring and nurture our young explorers' love for nature. 🌷
