This week, we have had a very special visitor at the centre.

A little green frog that Vicki found on her farm!

The frog has been safely living in our small frog tank, giving the children the opportunity to explore, observe, and discover more about frogs and their natural environment. The tamariki have shown so much curiosity, asking thoughtful questions about where frogs live, what they eat, and how they grow.

Together, we used the research screen to investigate the foods frogs enjoy eating and learn more about their habitats. We also used a microscope to take a closer look at the frog food, allowing the children to explore the tiny details and textures that we could not normally see with our eyes.

This created lots of excitement, wonder, and rich conversations between the children. The children have also been fascinated by the frog life cycle display, spending time revisiting the different stages from tadpole to frog. These learning experiences have encouraged curiosity, scientific thinking, and deeper exploration as the tamariki shared their ideas and discoveries with one another.

It has been wonderful to see the excitement and care the children have shown towards our green visitor while developing their knowledge and understanding of the natural world.
