Our outdoor environment is filled with opportunities for tamariki to explore, create, and learn through play.
Whether they are pretending to be insects, experimenting with coloured water, engaging in messy play, building with blocks and loose parts, or creating imaginative worlds, every experience supports their learning and development in meaningful ways.
By providing open-ended resources and inviting spaces, we encourage children to follow their curiosity, take risks, and discover at their own pace. Through these hands-on experiences, children naturally engage with many of the 16 Areas of Play, including imaginative, sensory, science, construction, water, creative, literacy, mathematical, gross and fine motor, social, nature, and adventurous play.
They investigate, ask questions, test ideas, and solve problems while developing communication skills through sharing ideas, negotiating roles, and learning from one another through ako. These experiences help children become confident thinkers who value different perspectives and enjoy working collaboratively.
The 16 Areas of Play support children's holistic development. Physical play builds coordination and resilience, sensory experiences spark curiosity, and construction and creative play inspire innovation. Literacy and mathematical concepts are naturally woven into conversations, counting, measuring, sorting, and storytelling, while nature play encourages children to care for the environment. Social and imaginative play foster friendships, empathy, cooperation, and leadership.
Guided by the principles of Te Whāriki, we create environments that empower tamariki to follow their interests, make choices, and develop a strong sense of belonging. Every splash, discovery, and imaginative adventure reminds us that meaningful learning happens when children are free to explore, investigate, create, and enjoy the outdoors together.
