In Ruma Kea, we are passionate about supporting tamariki to develop the skills, confidence, and resilience they need to thrive as they transition to school.

Through our Set for School programme, children are encouraged to build independence, take responsibility for themselves and their belongings, and develop the social and emotional skills needed for successful learning.

Each day, tamariki engage in experiences that strengthen early literacy and numeracy skills while also learning important self-help routines, such as managing their lunchboxes, caring for their belongings, following instructions, and contributing to the classroom environment. These everyday opportunities help children develop confidence in their own abilities and foster a sense of responsibility.

A strong focus is also placed on resilience and problem-solving. Children are supported to work through challenges, express their thoughts and feelings, persevere when tasks become difficult, and seek solutions independently before asking for help. These skills help build self-confidence and prepare tamariki for the expectations of school life.

Our goal is not only to help children become school-ready but also to nurture capable, confident learners who feel empowered to take on new challenges, build positive relationships, and embrace learning with curiosity and enthusiasm throughout their journey.
