What a tino mīharo couple of weeks with some amazing whanaunga happening in our centre to kick off our Matariki celebrations

 Whakawhanaungatanga I tō tātou hapori!

We had the privilege of having two of our local kura come in to visit and spend time with our tamariki and share their talents in Kapa Haka which is a keen interest here at Te Tuāpapa ki Papawhiro - BestStart Willowpark Rd.

Parkvale Primary School, one of our local kura where many of our tamariki transition, selected 16 tamariki to come and perform for us. Our kaea did a pōwhiri to welcome the kura in and we sang a couple of waiata to mihi to our visitors. Our tamariki were amazing and did a fantastic job!

We were then able to sit and watch the kura perform and they were ‘ka mau te wehi!’ Their mana filled our centre, our tamariki were familiar with the waiata and poi the roopu performed and were able to join in and tautoko. We then had the pleasure of having some kōtiro ma from Hukarere Māori Girls College come and koha the centre some handmade resources.

We were so grateful and once again our tamariki got to practice their powhiri and waiata to welcome them in. Ngā kotiro were given the opportunity to stay and interact with our tamariki, which provided some beautiful opportunities for tuakana teina experiences.

These visits are a great way for us to whanaunga I tō tatou hapori, welcome our community into our centre and to tautoko our tamariki in their interest of kapa haka.

Manawatia a Matariki!
