Today we went on a bus trip to our local vet!
We had such a great time and the staff at Shirley vet were amazing and showed us all the behind the scenes of how they look after the animals.
Our kaiako/teachers got to dress up as a vet surgeon for us. We got to explore and touch some of the different tools they use for surgery on animals and they showed us a cat having a wee surgery at the clinic today. We got to meet Muddy who is one of the vet’s dog!
Muddy is a St John emotional support dog and is 14 years old, so he was very calm and happy for the tamariki/children to give him pats (once the tamariki/children got used to him being there). We watched the vet wrap a bandage around his leg and we helped check his heart beat. We then got to wrap bandages around some of the dog toys to practice.
We then went for a look around the vet where they were doing x-rays and feeding the cats that were there being looked after. There was so much to look at and learn!
Shout out to the team at Shirley Vet for showed us around today and making this a special visit!
