Beststart Meadowbank Set-for-School initiative. BestStart has started a set-for-school program where our focus is to support the children and prepare them for primary school and their future learning. In the Tui room at BestStart Meadowbank, our passionate teachers are dedicated to enhancing early literacy skills through a focused approach called "Letter of the Week." Each week we are focusing on one letter of the alphabet, using it as a central theme for our learning activities. We are focusing on learning the lowercase alphabet as primary school teachers have shared with us that tamariki are finding lowercase letters more challenging. To further support literacy development, we've introduced Set for School book bags, which are sent home every Friday. These bags contain a notebook with engaging activities and a small reading book to encourage reading at home. Additionally, we are also having our Monday show-and-tell sessions, where children bring items from home starting with the letter of the week. This initiative not only reinforces letter recognition but also fosters excitement and participation among our tamariki. Furthermore, to prepare our children for their next big transition, we organize school visits to Meadowbank Primary once a term. These visits provide invaluable opportunities for our tamariki to explore various activities and interact confidently with children in the new entrant classroom. We believe that these experiences lay a strong foundation for our children's future success and are integral to their learning journey.
