Brothers and sisters day with BestStart Taita

Today we celebrated Rakhi/ Raksha Bandhan (also known as Rakhi) - this is celebrated as a 'brothers and sisters day' in India, where we tie special bracelets on each other's wrists as a symbol of always protecting each other and promising to look after each other.

We used this celebration as hoa/ dost (friends), that we promise to be kind to one another and respect each another in the Putohe room.
We made special individual bracelets and gave them to our hoa/ dost (friends).

We did a lot of learning through this celebration:
- We learnt about Rakhi (different celebrations from different cultures - the wider world)
- We used our super awesome concentration skills to thread the beads through
- We used lots of finger and hand muscles to enhance our fine motor skills
- We identified lots of colours!
- We also did lots of math! There were lots of beads to count!
- We worked alongside our peers and socialised with each other
- We took turns passing the tray of beads
- We used our patience skills while waiting for our bracelet to be tied
- Most importantly, we had laughs and giggles when Jyot's beads kept falling on the ground

Tamariki/ bache (children) had lots of pārekareka/ fun during this celebration. Especially our promise to each other in the Putohe room to 'always be kind to one another, and show respect to each other.
