Here at BestStart Abacus building our relationships with the local community is important for us.

Last year we had a focus around sustainability and feel that this is still relevant in the sense we want to encourage ākonga to grow and develop their understanding of how they can respect Papatuanuku (The earth mother).  We want to foster a sense of kaitiaki (Guardianship) within ākonga so that they act as guardians, proctors, and conservationists who respect nature.

So we've teamed up with Kids Greening Taupo to get our tamariki out and about in the community and involved in nature.

By focusing on developing our relationship with Kids Greening Taupo we will be offering children the opportunity to go on regular excursions out to explore our local area which will support us to grow our local curriculum and the development of our own bush kindy.

We went on our first Bush Kindy excursion last week and the children saw so many things. We learned a lot about the different trees, and we did some bug hunting. The children enjoyed playing with the fallen leaves. Our plan for the future is to plant more trees working alongside Kids Greening Taupo.  We are so excited to see where this will take us and what the tamariki will learn from these experiences.
