Maori colour song

Dear Whanau (Family) of Pugalini and Mikail,

I wanted to share this adorable video of Pugalini teaching our younger child Mikail the Maori colour song. We were first finger painting, and then we ended up getting all the paint on our fingers, so then I and Pugalini decided to sing the colour song.

Mikail didn't know it, but he was trying to sing it. So then Pugalini decided to teach Mikail the song. She pointed to each finger with a different colour to match the song. So wonderful Pugalini and Mikail.

Tuakana-teina is a teaching and learning approach drawn from Te Ao Māori – the Māori world. It refers to the relationship between an older person (tuakana) and a younger person (teina). The meaning is literally "older sibling-younger sibling". It's also related to 'ako' where learning and teaching are happening simultaneously within a relationship.

This learning was clearly visible in this video.
