Our fun excursion trip to our local library.
At BestStart Hei Hei, we have a strong focus on creating an environment where tamariki (children) have the opportunity to explore the wider world around them.
In the month of October, our older nursery tamariki had an excursion trip to the local library. The tamariki were thrilled to be a part of the music and movement session at the local library, where they used a variety of props like shaker eggs and scarves to express their creativity and actions.
They loved singing and copying the actions of a variety of songs, including Rock- a- by your bear and Old MacDonald, along with some new songs as well. Through this wonderful excursion, our tamariki also enjoyed having a different experience of watching the train on their way to the library as they walked under the railway track bridge.
Waiata (music) and kanikani (dance) are great vehicles for learning and development. They support children’s intellectual, imaginative, emotional, social and cultural growth. They are enjoyable and soothing and help develop listening skills, concentration, coordination, cooperation, communication and memory, as well as being a valuable resource for creativity.
Through the use of props, our tamariki were learning to express their feelings and indulge their imagination through voice, music and body movement.
In addition to this, our tamariki were also working on their coordination and motor skills while working on the dispositions and skills of cooperation and communication. Ka pai tamariki ma!
