Philippine National Language Week

1

Philippine national language week was organized at kindy in collaboration with our whanau and Tamariki. To embrace and celebrate this beautiful culture at our Kindy, kaiako (Michelle, Gurpreet and Kristy) organized various activities.

These activities included "Filipino flag coloring" where kaiako discussed about the meaning of all the colors in the Philippine flag and what they resemble. The white triangle stands for equality; the blue stripe stands for peace, truth, and justice; and the red stripe represents patriotism.

Then we were learning how to count in Filipino from "Cero to Sampu" how to greet one another in Filipino: "Hello - Kumusta, "How are you? - Kumusta ka?" , "Good morning - Magandang umaga" , "Thank you - Salamat" , "Goodbye - Paalam".

On the last day of Philippine national language week, our whanau were also invited to the centre for a celebration where we shared many of the local Philippine dishes. Some of the favourite dishes were, Lumpia - spring roll, Ube - purple yam used for savory and dessert dishes , Pancit- rice noodles and Bibinka- coconut rice cake, Chicken Adobo - marinated chicken marinated in vinegar and other seasonings.

This also happened to be Kaiako Kristys' birthday which we were able to celebrate at the same time! Which made the event extra special. Our celebration was a great success and we are all looking forward our next cultural event!
