In the Tūī room we support our children's transition to school by providing termly excursions. This term we took six children to Ararira Springs Primary School. Our children were able to meet the teachers, explore the classroom and make connections. We started off our excursion by walking to the school.

The children loved getting out into the community and pointing out all things new and familiar to them. After being welcomed into the school we explored the new entrant's classroom and playground. Our children were excited to see all their old friends, play with new resources, and meet the teachers! The excursions to school help our children to connect with and understand what it means to be a primary school kid.

They are able to ask questions, build relationships and explore with people they know and trust. The transition to primary school is a big step for our children in their learning journey. By providing these opportunities we are supporting their sense of confidence to ensure the transition leads to the best outcomes. In the Tūī room we have a focus on transition to school through our play-based curriculum. We provide a range of experiences to support our children’s pre-numeracy, pre-literacy, and social-emotional abilities.
