新年快乐 Xīnnián kuàilè

This week we have been celebrating the Luna new year! The Tāmaki have had an amazing time celebrating and learning about about the new year. We have been incredibly lucky to have Maggie’s Nǎina, grandma, come in and do a mat time for both rooms about the story of the new year, all the animals at how it’s celebrated. We also had Yao Yao who is David’s mum come in and do art, teaching the children how to make lanterns and snakes. A massive thank you to them both for coming in and spending time with us this week, we are incredibly appreciative.

Other things we did was, learning to use chopsticks, water play with red and gold, making lanterns and cherry blossoms, handprint signatures on our cherry blossoms, making a big snake. So much learning has been taking place, social skills, communication skill, fine motor skills working theories with folding the paper and watching the ice melt.

Linking in to our vision, celebrating the diversity and culture which makes us all so beautiful. Our philosophy, manaakitnaga, learning about others cultures allows us to be kind to one another. It also links into the NZ teaching curriculum Te Whariki through the principals “The wider world of family and community is an integral part of early childhood curriculum.” and learning outcomes “Making connections between people, places and things in their world. ”

He aha te mea nui? Māku e kii atu, he tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata. What is the most important thing in the world? Well, let me tell you, it is people, it is people, it is people.
