Welcome back to Wolfpack Te Rapa parents, whanau, and our beautiful tamariki!

January, 2021

Independence. Responsibility. Overall growth and development.

I hope you had an amazing and safe Christmas, and Happy New Year. We would like to introduce you to the new play areas that we have created in support of our tamariki transitioning and growth as they continue their hunt for knowledge.

Throughout the year we will be building important foundations for their future learning before they head off to kura and beyond.

Welcome to Maui room home to Active and Mischievious Explorers. Tamariki can actively explore learning environment with all of their senses, making new and wonderful discoveries. Imagination runs wild. Creativity flows freely. The underlining focus will be on Independence:

  • Being able to do things for themselves, such as putting their belongings away in   their cubbies and changing their clothes,
  • Cleaning up after themselves, serving their kai and putting their dishes away,
  • Participating in morning (Powhiri and whakatau) and afternoon rituals,
  • Respecting others. Building new and strengthening existing relationships/friendships and awhi our friends.  (Whanaungatanga)
  • Watering our garden and looking after our Papatuanuku (Manaakitanga)
  • Respecting and following kindy-den rules. (Mana Whenua/Belonging)

We are looking forward to the journey we will be having as Maui room, building those important foundations at the early age.

Welcome to Tangaroa room! The room where children set out for their new exploration and journey where the three-year-old children will see the world in different views, where they get prepared to become the Alpha of the Wolfpack, and where they will build responsibilities as they learn about kaitiakitanga. We focus on the children’s own independent responsibilities and responsibilities we have as a group! We explore new things everyday as a group and just like ‘Tangaroa’ the atua of the ocean, our learning is deep and free flowing, leading interests to interests. We look forward to the journey we will be having as Tangaroa room and help our three year old friends become an alpha of the Wolfpack.

Alpha Kaiako are excited to have everyone back ready to explore, learn and play.

We have been very fortunate to have a new Kaiako in the Alpha space, whaea Penny, she has a beautiful write up on Storypark about her teaching journey, go and check it out.

Our tamariki have come back with lots of enthusiasm for learning. Their sense of belonging is being strengthened each day. To further their support our alpha’s learning journey, they have participated in creating purposeful pockets of play, by working together to create spaces they want. Through encouragement our alpha’s have created fun spaces to play and learn. The alpha space is designed to foster their learning development in preparation for kura. Our alpha friends are focussing on becoming respondible and independent through taking care of their belongings, recognising letters and their name to try their very best to write on their artwork. Alpha’s are exposed to literacy and mathematical language each day through play.

We look forward to working with our four years olds to support whanau and tamariki with their preparation to kura.
