3, 2, 1...BLASTOFF!
Once upon a time there was a young boy who had always dreamed of flying to the moon.....and today was the day!
The rocket ship was ready, it want's very big, just large enough for two small astronauts.
"Ready?" The astronauts began the count down.....3, 2, 1...BLASTOFF!" The boosters began to fire up and the rocket began to shudder
The Astronauts were thrown back in their seats and the rocket zoomed up so fast into the sky that everything outside the window was just a blur. It seemed like just a few minutes when everything got very quiet. They were now in outer space....
Wow! What an amazing time we have had over the last couple of months! Our Solar System project has really 'taken off!"
We have loved the depth of learning and how the children have lead their own learning, driving this project and excitedly sharing all of their new knowledge with family and friends.
So what have we learn't:
- There are 8 planets in our solar system
- We know all of their names and special characteristics
- The sun is a ball of burning fire at the centre of our solar system
- There are dwarf planets like pluto & Ceres
- There are many different types & sizes of stars.
- We live on planet Earth, the Earth spins around the sun & there is one moon.
It is amazing to see the children's confidence grow from strength to strength as they engage within these types of projects. Nurturing an inquisitive mind and supporting our children through the inquiry process is so much more than gathering facts about things.....it is about nurturing all those fundamental skills and dispositions that will support life long learning.
