A brilliant bike day
During the July school holidays, our youngest tamariki joined in Bike Day with their elder siblings and friends. The children loved sailing around the carpark on their trikes and bikes or riding in the kaiako-powered wagon. The children learnt how to duck and weave around the other vehicles, and how quickly to move their legs to increase their speed. Whoosh! The wagon was especially popular, as it allowed the children to be up higher and feel the sunshine and wind on their faces. Needless to say, our tamariki enjoyed a well deserved kai and moe after leaving all their energy on the bike track. I wonder if we have some future velodrome-based Olympians in our midst?
During this experience, our tamariki were working towards the mana aotūroa |exploration strand of Te Whāriki by challenging their bodies using equipment and learning how to relate the movement of their bodies to the movement of other children's bodies.
