A buzz about coffee
Having parents and family involved in children's learning is a key aspect of our centre vision 'Play together, stand together, learn together' at BestStart Richmond Kindy. As part of our current project the children are exploring, investigating and learning about the professions in our community and the jobs and businesses of our parents and whanau.
Today one of our parents Maria who owns Carlotta's coffee cart came to kindy to teach the children all about how to make coffee and how her business works. The children asked her questions about making coffee and how the sides of her coffee cart 'opened up' and how she moved the coffee cart around with her car. She treated all the children to a hot chocolate and marshmallow, showing them how to froth the milk.
Thanks Maria, the children thoroughly loved this experience and have talked about it lots since.
The children are learning to make connections in our community and develop their language skills as they listen, discuss, ask questions and tell others about their experiences and what they learned.
