This February, we celebrated Chinese New Year at BestStart Peachgrove by creating art and crafts, cooking Chinese food and introducing the Lion/Dragon dance to the children.

We made Chinese lanterns and hung them in our room, we practised Chinese calligraphy and used play dough to create the dragon tail, Chinese words and make chopsticks. We also introduced the dragon dance and imitate it during our mat time sessions then we made some vegetable Spring rolls that was enjoyed by the children and our parents!
Although we do not have any Chinese families in the centre the moment, we value every culture's traditions and through this, our tamariki build an understanding that their personal traditions may be different from their friends or from other people.
