Here at Best Start South Road we have been eagerly anticipating our return to centre, to see all of our wonderful tamariki and whanau again. The children have grown so much since we last saw them. They have developed new skills, language, and interests.

Over the past couple of weeks we have been spending a lot of time reconnecting with our tamariki and whanau. During this time we noticed that there was a strong interest in pretend play, imaginary play, and superheroes. Tamariki were running around in the outdoor environments saving each others, capturing the bad guys, or working together to put out fires or being Drs and nurses to help people feel better. Inside children were looking after their baby dolls, making dinner and doing the dishes. Children were interacting beautifully together and really enjoying playing with and alongside their peers.

We decided to celebrate our return to centre and this new interest by hosting a fun dress up day. Super heroes and princesses (OR whatever your child would like to dress up as) was set for two days of the week to ensure lots of different children had the opportunity to participate in the fun. On the dress up days we saw children get really involved in their imaginary play, they complimented each others costumes and continued to strengthen their relationships with their peers. Feedback from parents indicated that their children were really excited for the dress up day and, afterwards, that they really enjoyed it. They hoped we would organize another dress up day soon. So that's exactly what we plan to do!

At Best Start South Road our families' input is important to us and we listen. 'Multiple voices, one community' is our vision and we strive to live this vision everyday. We look forward to planning another themed dress up day based on our children's interests in the near future.
