A great learning experience
Every Thursday we head off to the Mount Maunganui Library. We walk to the bus stop and take the bus on our short adventure up the road. It may be a short ride but the children love it as they point out the sights of Mount Maunganui. We see McDonalds, Blake Park, Zespri, cafes and even some of their houses. On arrival at the library the children get to explore their surroundings before settling in for a mattime with the friendly librarian. They join in songs and stories and the teachers get to know all about new books on offer. The children also get to choose their own books to take back to Kindy. We then hop back on the bus to return to Kindy. We cannot do these trips without our amazing parent helpers.
This out of centre experience teaches the children so many valuable skills as they venture into their community. Children learn to question and explore. They understand what’s going on around them and learn new words based on what they see. The children extend their literacy learning at the library with the songs and stories. They feel part of the community they live in and contribute as a group. They learn about road safety and they show respect for others and those around them.
