A haka for our school leavers
This month the tamariki (children) are practicing a haka (performance dance) that they created to celebrate a special occasion, three of their friends are leaving for school.
When we asked them how it mad them feel? The reply was:
Love – for them as they are their friends
Sad – as they will be leaving them
Excited – for them as they are going to primary school (meaning that they are big boys and girls now)
Pride – as they are friends that are cared about and loved in our preschool whanau (family)
What resulted from that korero (talk) was a haka’s lyrics that involved those four words.
Aroha
Pouri
Hiam o
