We had a fun Teddy Bears picnic with our children in the under 2 room at BestStart Katikati. Our tamariki were so excited to bring their special cuddly friends in from home. What a mixture of teddies, and bundles of laughter and fun we had!
There were giant cut out teddies on the wall that our tamariki were able to pull off and put back together again. This was a good work out for those growing finger, arm and shoulder muscles as the pieces were stuck hard and fast. We talked about the teddies body parts and where the same parts were on our bodies…ears, arms, face, eyes, nose, mouth, puku/tummy and legs.
Our teddies joined in for their pretend food at kai times, and later on they also had a chance to pretend eat play dough creations.
The big pink tunnel was lots of fun for playing peek a boo in. No one ever gets tired of that game. Those cheeky teddies were poking their heads through the tunnel holes as well.
Later in the day our teddies went missing, but those very clever children found them all hiding in the tree!
Our fun filled day ended with a bit of water play and a refreshing swim for a couple of bears. Luckily we had towels so the bears were wrapped up and dried off by their loving owners.
Teddy Bear days the best!
Our Teddy Bear day promoted lots of imaginative play which fosters creativity and promotes physical development in a fun way. It provides opportunities for tamariki to develop their language and social skills, boosts the development of problem solving, self regulation and self help skills, and is a fun way to teach tamariki positive behaviour and well being.
