The kaiako and tamariki at BestStart Riverbend Rd have been engaging in learning experiences, resources and opportunities to reflect the values and principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi - Partnership, Protection and Participation. In the lead up to Waitangi Day we had a focus on Tangata Whenuatanga affirming and extending the language, culture and identity of our tamariki.  With our kete full of knowledge we decided to extend our learning by being creative and expressive encouraging tamariki to explore marae, atua, weaving and patterns.  We were blessed to have our local community join the learning with kuia Whaea Linda sharing her flax weaving skills and Matua Bob making rewana bread.  These meaningful learning experiences have generated conversation amongst tamariki as they share their knowledge and make connections to their real life experiences.
