A Month Of Sensory Exploration
During the month of April, the children have been showing a new interest in sensory exploration. We have a range of different materials to explore such as clay, water and corn flour. We've enjoyed going back in time to explore our dinosaurs in the clay. We used the dinosaurs to stomp around the tray leaving tracks in the clay and on the tray. Due to this the children were able to explore the texture of the clay and also explore the effect the dinosaurs have on the clay when they stomp around.
With water we have been exploring cleaning our chairs, taking the animals swimming as well as filling up containers and tipping it back out. During this play we were able to explore looking after our world and keeping our furniture clean. With the animals we were able to explore sea animals' normal habitat. Lastly with the containers we were able to explore early mathematical concept such as volume of our containers as we filled them up with water. Water is a resource that has many different uses and can learn a range of different information from this natural material.
We also had a blast getting our hands messy in the corn flour . We were able to explore sense of touch and taste as we dug our hands in to explore this material.
