What a great night we had celebrating Matariki at BestStart Melling. All our kaiako and tamariki have worked so hard leading up to this special event.  We have been practicing waiata and learning more about Matariki.  Throughout the day of our main celebration kaiako helped our awesome cook Jo in preparing the shared kai for the big night.  Tamariki also helped with chopping and peeling vegetable with their kaiako.

At the end of the day we all gathered together in the Preschool room with our families.  Clare (Toddler teacher) took on the role as kai karanga to welcome our manuhiri (guests) to our celebration through a haka powhiri.  Folowing this haka, the kaiako and tamariki performed their list of songs that they have been practicing.

Our special guests for the evening – Taita College performed a beautiful Pasifika and waiata dance.  We then all came together, said karakia and enjoyed a shared kai of boil up and soup together.

What a beautiful night this was, thanks to all our friends and whanau for taking the time out and making this such an awesome celebration.
