On Wednesday 20th November we were invited to attend the Children’s Picnic at Parliament to celebrate International Children’s Day, the 30th Anniversary of the United Nations Rights of the Child and the opening of the PlaySpace (the new Parliamentary playground).

We caught the bus from the centre to Parliament and then sat and listened as we were welcome to the event. We then got our lunch bags (provided by the organisers) and enjoyed sandwiches, fruit and a mini cupcake. After our lunch we explored the bubbles and the new slide and when the playground was opened we came together with the other early childhood services and sung “Tutira ma nga iwi” a waiata we have been learning at the centre. We listened to both Minister Trevor Mallard and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern who committed to supporting children and their rights and trying to make New Zealand one of the best places in the word to be a child. Finally before we came back to the centre we got to have a show by Zappo the Magician. Such a fun day working with our wider Early Childhood Community in Wellington.
