We ventured out on an excursion with Liss and Kathrine to Turanga library in the city and look for more pukapuka/books on Matariki.

First, we walked to the bus stop and waited patiently for it to come. It rained a lot but we were all wrapped up warm in our wet weather gear. We sang songs to keep our bodies moving too. Then the bus came and we excitedly got on, we discussed what we could see while we were on the bus on our way to the Turanga library.

When we arrived at the bus exchange we resumed our walking bus formation and began our walk to the library. Once we got to the library we gathered again and had a quick hui about our plan inside. Some of the children had clearly been to this library before because they knew exactly where we needed to go and couldn’t wait to steer the way. “Up the stairs” they said.

We had a play on the slide and all lied down and enjoyed the stars. We talked about the Matariki stars and how they got up in to the night sky. We then moved on to the lego stations where we all created wonderful masterpieces. Then we moved on to finding some pukapuka/books. There was not much matariki books there so we each took our time and chose a pukapuka that stood out to us. We each took turns scanning our books out.

It was now time to head back to preschool but before we did we had a special treat, a fluffy. Before we know it we were back on the bus coming to preschool. Some of the children very curious about the whero/red button, so we explained to what this did and asked one of the children to help push it. After we got off the bus we explored the puddles while walking back to preschool, we loved jumping in them, seeing how deep they were and watching how high we could splash the water.
