This month, we were so lucky to organise a day for our tamariki to have the Lincoln Fire Brigade visit our centre. The team of five firefighters graced our tamariki with their knowledge and skills and guided them understand how to be safe in case of fire and how they support our community. We also got a chance to see how they put on fireproof clothes to protect them from being injured when going into buildings. They told a story by sharing a book in teaching us the importance of fire safety. Our tamariki were all fascinated by what they were seeing. Moreover, we did a drill practice about how we crawl under the smoke. All our tamariki performed well and they got a badge from the firefighters!

One of the most exciting parts was our tamariki went to car park to witness a real firetruck and how it consists of. They even lined up and used the powerful water hose.

At BestStart Te Whāriki, we aim to create many opportunities for tamariki interact with community helpers. It can help our tamariki understand being a part of a community, which leads to a feeling of belonging. It also fosters a sense of teamwork within their world.
