A week of celebrating Samoan culture
Here in our Tongariro room at BestStart Totara we have been celebrating Tongan Language week. We have been doing many activities from Tapa making, enjoying the music, and celebrating the language through song and dance.
By celebrating any language week, it gives our tamariki the chance to experience a new culture and in this situation learn some basic lela faka-Tonga, the language of Tonga. It also promotes self confidence and awareness as they share their cultural beliefs and diversity with their peers.
By offering Tamariki the opportunity of sharing the joy of others cultural festivals and celebrations, we can increase their awareness and inclusion of different cultures and beliefs.
