Akongia I nga kaupeka o te tau – Learning about the seasons…

Kei te korerotia i te ahua o te rangi – Talking about the weather….

Coming out of winter and experiencing beautiful ‘spring’ days, connects to our ‘class project’ at BestStart Harrison Street.

We have trees that blossom in our playground therefore; tamariki have seen first-hand how trees lose their leaves, blossom flowers appears, the flower petals fall, and then new leaves sprout.  We observe the beautiful bees at work.

Our tamariki have created a display of clouds for our classroom wall.  They chose which cloud type they want to replica, thus have learnt the basic types of clouds; their names, the differences in appearance

An outdoor temperature thermometer supported learning, regarding the connection with the outside weather and the outside temperature. Our children understand ‘temperature’ is the word we use, when we are thinking about and or telling, how hot or cold it is.  We have discovered for example; when the arrow points to the green section, it is a warm day.

The rain gauge is also taken the children’s interest.  Following a downpour of rain our tamariki are excited to see how much water has been collected.

We have learnt we can drink this water – thank you clouds.

Science in action!! ….. in our preschool.
