The month of October has seen BestStart Hei Hei's Kea and Kakapo rooms working well together to support the rooms' group programme planning around our art area. We have a large group of children showing real talent and skills in their artwork and by working together the older children can share their ideas with others which supports the tuakana- teina relationships embedded in our centre's philosophy.

As the summer weather approached, we planned art activities that could be enjoyed outside which included dye flicking, large mural painting. A school holiday programme around art was also planned which really highlighted art and supported parents and whanau to become interested in it. Kaiako saw this programme as an opportunity to partner with whanau and community to design and deliver education that responded to their children's interests and the implemented programme accelerated and identified progress for all tamariki.

Te Whariki outlines in Communication Goal 4 Children experience an environment where they discover different ways to be creative and expressive and using a wide range of materials and modes as we have during this programme which has supported tamariki learning outcomes and given them the confidence - maia to try new things as they explore the world of art.
