Every year BestStart centres celebrate Plunket and everything they do for tamariki through fundraising. All proceeds are donated to Plunket and last year centres donated almost $50,000 nation-wide!
This year we decided to do something a little different and jars were placed out in reception. Each jar had the face of a teacher on it and gold coin donations were placed into the teacher of each child/family’s choice. The teacher with the most amount of donations was going to be slimed.
The lucky teacher with the most number of coins was our centre manager Sharn! Sharn was particularly excited to be slimed and the event had to be postponed on two occasions due to there not being enough slime for the event, so when there finally was copious amount of blue slime, we celebrated one Thursday morning by pouring it all over Sharn!
The children were excited, yet unsure about pouring slime over one their teachers. After the first few initial brave children tipped some slime on Sharn’s head, it paved the way for more children to emerge confidently and pour it all over her hair, back, face and legs as she sat down on a plastic tray. For some children, the highlight was squirting Sharn with the hose afterwards, while she stood in the sandpit and tried to wash as much of the slime off her as she could.
Thank you to all those who donated with us, we have such a wonderful and generous local community!
