Aloha Friday, here we come!
Due to a long time of being away from kindy because of Covid-19 lockdown, our main focus coming back to kindy is around Mana Whenua - A strong sense of belonging at Kindy-den. This includes: our pups getting back into their daily routines, knowing that they have a place at BestStart Te Rapa Kindy, being part of kindy by participating in daily rituals, such as our morning whakatau inside our special and sacred marae, making important connections between learning at home and kindy.
This month's focus especially is on Hawaiian culture. On the 3rd of July we will be holding our first parent and whanau event after the lockdown, where leaders of the pack and the pups will prepare and perform a special concert that will honor and acknowledge Pacific culture. Coming together and sharing the love/aroha amongst ourselves and others is one of the most important values of Pacific culture.
To prepare for Aloha Friday, we have been greeting each other with "Aloha" every morning, as well as making Hawaiian costumes, consisting of grass hula skirt and flower necklaces/Lei. Furthermore, we have been learning and practicing the "Coconut" dance, and, singing cultural songs that will be performed in front of parents and whanau at this special event. Other activities include: building an erupting volcano in the sandpit, bringing a little science lesson into it. Moreover, teachers/pack leaders are also preparing something unique to perform in front of our dearest parents and whanau. We all hope to see you there, to share and celebrate this special moment with us.
