An eventful start to 2023
At BestStart, our shared values are at the heart of everything we do and every decision we make, as we work alongside our whānau/families, and our communities, to make a positive difference in the lives of tamariki.
At BestStart Hei Hei, we strive to create an environment of “Taonga Tuku Iho”, where we acknowledge and celebrate all the treasures (knowledge, language, culture, whakapapa) that have been passed down through generations to our precious children.
BestStart Hei Hei started the year 2023 with quiet a few celebrations. While we celebrated the Chinese New Year - The Year of Rabbit, with our nursery tamariki, we also enjoyed getting to know the grandparents of our pepi during the “Grandparent’s morning tea”.
During the Chinese New Year celebration in the month of January, the kaiako used the digital technology to learn the story behind the Chinese New Year. We also organised the “Chinese New Year “afternoon tea where our tamariki got the opportunity to explore one of the traditional Chinese dishes know as dumplings. The tamariki in the nursery got themselves acquainted with the different things associated with occasion by exploring the pictures of lanterns, traditional food in the feast as well as the auspicious red envelops known as hóngbāo. Our amazing kaiako in the nursery enriched this experience by introducing our pepi to the different animals that symbolises the Chinese Zodiac symbols through the waiata “What’s your Chinese Zodiac animal saying”, to which, our pepi loved enacting the animal sounds.
Not only that, in the beginning of February, our tamariki were thrilled to spend a special morning with their grandparents during the Grandparent’s brunch. It was indeed a special morning for us kaiako as well as we got to meet the amazing grandparents of the pepi in the nursery. Through this lovely brunch, we were able to form meaningful relationships with the extended whānau of our tamariki.
What an eventful start to 2023!
