Matariki at BestStart Lambie Drive was a vibrant celebration of culture, creativity, and connection. From joyful performances to hands-on crafts and delicious kai, our tamariki and whānau came together to honour the Māori New Year in true community spirit.
On Thursday, BestStart Lambie Drive came alive with the joyful spirit of Matariki as tamariki, whānau, and staff gathered to honour the Māori New Year. The celebration began in the Ruru Room with a heartfelt opening from Liku, setting the tone for a day filled with community, culture, and creativity.
True to our centre vision, “Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini” (My strength is not as an individual, but as a collective), this special day highlighted the power of coming together.
Our tamariki stole the spotlight with the Matariki Macarena and Ngā Whetū o Matariki – their energy and enthusiasm lighting up the room.
Following the performances, everyone took part in hands-on activities – from star colouring and poi making guided by Liku, to flower weaving with Kavita, and kite making with Lara. Each craft celebrated the rich traditions and aspirations of Matariki.
No celebration is complete without kai, and Aruna’s delicious meal provided the perfect moment for sharing kōrero and enjoying each other’s company.
The smiles, laughter, and togetherness throughout the day beautifully reflected our collective strength and community spirit.
Thank you to everyone who joined us – your presence made this a day to remember. Ngā mihi nui for celebrating the magic of Matariki with us!
