Animals, animals everywhere!

Our Taranaki Space preschool children at BestStart Mangorei Rd have been working on a special project about animals as the children had a keen interest in them. We went on a special trip to the Manutahi Taxiderm Museum and spent lots of time exploring different animals and asking questions about them all. We were lucky enough to find out about this museum through a family member of the Taranaki space as it is his Gr

We started on a bus ride out to Lepperton, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. Once we got to the museum some of the children were a little overwhelmed as it looks like the animals will drop down and chase you. They have an extensive collection with a Polar Bear, Rhinos, Snakes, Baboons, Crabs, Wolves, Lizards and Birds... just to name a few. Once in the shed, ngā tamariki relaxed and enjoyed experiencing the textures of all the different fur on offer and getting up close to the animals in their cabinets.

After half an hour, we decided to have some morning tea, of course as soon as we decided to do this it started to rain. Luckily the Taranaki Space children are not scared of a little rain and decided to eat by the shelter of the bus, even our parents enjoyed this. Once we finished morning tea, John the owner of the museum (and Rydges Grandad) went and got some bread for ngā tamariki to feed the rams he has on his property. They had huge horns, but were friendly enough to let the children feed them through the fence.

After this we jumped on the bus to Hickford park in BellBlock for some kai and a play. Once at the park the weather gods were good to us and the children were so excited to play on the playground and have running races with Devon.
