We had such a blast celebrating Anzac last week with our children engaging in some meaningful experiences to help them learn and understand what Anzac is.

To start off our week we had lovely Imelda help our tamariki create a beautiful wreath made with their hand shape. Our children persevered with the project which gave an awesome opportunity to share and gain upon the children’s prior knowledge about Anzac. It was a great way to start us off on our learning journey.

Our children later worked on making poppies with Nana and her inviting, beautiful table ready with a range of resources for our children to make and create. Their poppies were beautifully displayed for a short amount of time as our children were so eager to take them home.

Later on through the week we also made some crosses which sparked an inviting way to discuss the crosses and why we were making them, who we remembered for Anzac. We later used these crosses in our Anzac ceremony we commenced in our centre. We listened to The Last Post and the loud trumpet noise caught our children’s attention and we marched around our bike track in such a meaningful way. We listened to the trumpets again and our children placed our crosses on our fence which was a very special way to end our ceremony. It was such a busy week with our tamariki and was great to see them actively participating in their learning.
