ANZAC Day 2023

As ANZAC Day was approaching, we wanted to make this day meaningful and teach the children about the importance of April 25th. We believe that through these memorials and remembrances, children will learn the significance of these important cultural events that will stick within their memories. We focused our acknowledgment to build young children’s understanding of the traditions, facts, and folklore of ANZAC Day.

April was a very busy month regarding ANZAC Day where we made wreaths, poppies, and ANZAC biscuits for our in-centre service. Each time we observe a tradition, we aim to show children how to appreciate our historical past. Throughout the month of April, the young children were eager to participate and learn more. All of our children learnt a lot about this historical day, with some children's knowledge developing from thinking ANZAC Day was about volcanoes, to being about remembering the soldiers.

This ANZAC Day we paid tribute to our Centre families' ancestors by asking families to bring in their photos and artifacts to support the children’s connections with their heritage. For every child that participated that day, we hope they felt the pride of being part of New Zealand.
