Art and craft experiences with natural resource

On Monday in the Prep School, Nga Tamariki and I had an amazing time exploring the natural resources I had collected from home utilising our children’s hot glue guns in an art experience.

The children spent a long time on their creations as we discussed where we could find and collect these resources in our local community and how we could use these in our learning and play

Art and craft experiences are an important element in our early childhood curriculum and one of our essential 16 areas of play along with science learning about the natural world around us.

Other learning from this activity are:
  • Hand-eye coordination using the glue guns to glue on objects
  • Task persistence, problem solving and using trial and error which are important foundation skills for “ Be School Ready”
  • Working theories learning about the natural world using creative thinking and reasoning
  • Joining in on a group activity
