One of our Key Events that we celebrate annually here at BestStart Havelock North is Art Deco!
This is always such a popular local event here in Hawkes Bay. This is where we step back in time and dress up in the attire that was happening when the Napier Earthquake happened here in 1931.
We researched what our town used to look like, the cars that people would drive, and what some of the costumes and the dancing were. We listened to some Jazz music too. On the day, we had a tea party of cucumber sandwiches and scones.
Later we brought out our Derby cars we had made years back and had races around our bike track. We each enjoyed having a Lemonade iceblock to end the day. It was a fun day had by all of us. On this day, we also to a look at the resilience we all have as a community when we came together to remember Cyclone Gabrielle 2 years ago.
We had drawn black and white love hearts on our front window to our entrance way to the centre & we had black and white flags displayed.
