The Children's House has kicked off the year with our curriculum area focus of arts, music and skill builders. We have been giving our tamariki (children) lessons including Skill builders where children have a range of resources where they can experiment with colors, textures and materials. Skill builders/preparation gives the children more independence and self-esteem to develop skills which enables them to execute their creations with more satisfaction.

We have been experimenting with music which allows children to express their emotions in multiple ways, whether it is using instruments, Maori action songs, stretchy cord, lycra, stories, ukulele or sign language. Our Montessori classroom is the ideal environment for the tamariki to develop listening skills through music. Calming music unconsciously and consciously allows children to absorb calm emotions and helping the children to settle into the day.

The Montessori environment is rich with learning opportunities for the child to explore their culture and the world. Cultural experiences including music, art, singing, drama, celebrations from other cultures and are regularly introduced in the environment. The Children's House tamariki are experiencing a place to be creative, expressive and independent.
