Auckland Musuem Trip for Matariki Celebrations!
To celebrate Matariki with all our Tamariki and their Whanau, we organised a centre excursion to the Auckland Museum!
Our tamariki were filled with so much joy when the bus arrived. Not only was the bus ride an adventure on its own but wearing our safety gear and learning some rules of the road just added to the fun. Our most popular stop seemed to be the Dinosaur exhibition. We watched a show called "Double Trouble" where we compared the different dinosaurs and how they would compare in battle. What is better than seeing one T-Rex? - seeing and comparing two of them! Our tamariki sat beautifully and showed an outstanding amount of interest in the show. Their concentration surprised us all and we knew they were definitely keen explorers in the making.
Most importantly, we discussed the Matariki stars and how the museum holds a place for all the indigenous creations of New Zealand. How remembrance of the past can be viewed and remembered by experiencing the history of this beautiful land and its people. This led most of us to end at the "Te Marae Ātea Māori Court" where we could visually explore the beautiful visuals, customs, and sense of belonging in this special place.
Our tamariki were very curious about the space, showed respect when entering, and enjoyed being able to partake in a special occasion. We were very proud of our tamariki for listening, taking instructions, and participating in this learning opportunity. Ka Pai Tamarikima!
