The start of autumn means many things but to the tamariki in the Fantail Room the falling leaves mean a whole new learning experience. Such a simple experience has many learning outcomes, tamariki used their senses to explore the leaves which allowed them to make physical connections to the natural world, kaiako supported the tamariki to count the leaves and they sorted them into colours. Fine motor skills were developed as the children pulled the leaves apart and tried to catch them as they fell on their heads. We believe that by providing learning experiences like this it provides tamariki with endless possibilities and opportunities to develop their curiosity and confidence.
