Our tamariki have been enjoying exploring and looking after our vegetable garden which was planted during our Matariki celebration this year.  It provided tamariki with opportunities to explore their ideas about the natural world and learn about the world around them. It encouraged our tamariki to learn about the science of plants (germination, what the plants needs to grow), animals, weather, the environment, nutrition and also encouraged tamariki to develop a sense of responsibility from caring for plants.

Coming back in the centre in Level 3 after five weeks, it was so exciting to see how healthy our vegetable garden has grown and we are so looking forward harvest time where there will be a lot of discussion about where fresh food comes from, food nutrition and health eating. How exciting and fun it will be for our tamariki to enjoy the food they have grown!
